A Shot of Rock - The Pretty Reckless

The Pretty Reckless

Concert Review

Welcome to A Shot Of Rock!

I am your host Alex!

And I am about to tell you about the show that I went to!

There is a video review but I thought I would try something extra this time.

It was that good of a show...

On November 22nd I had the pleasure of attending the Pretty Reckless show at the 7 Flags Event Center in Clive, Iowa. The show started with the lovely gentlemen of Them Evils. The pure energy and intensity they brought to the stage was electrifying. As soon as their set was over I quickly bought up their EP. Their sound was more along the lines of 80's metal meets modern alternative rock. In their BIOS they say that their influences were Led Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age and this is the best way to explain their sound.

Next up were the local boys of Holy White Hounds. This is the second time I have seen the band perform. The first time it was at the final LAZERfest. The year time between shows really showed their growth as a band. Holy White Hounds moved more and put on a much more interesting performance to watch and listen to. I hope that they continue to grow in this way. The one thing that I want them to learn is to play off of each other. They are doing this but at times it is like watching different bands playing on the same stage. I feel that with a little work their set will go from good to great!

The final act for the night was the long awaited The Pretty Reckless! I was very excited to see the band again. The last time I got to see them was at LAZERfest in 2014. They had a short set and I was anxious to see what they could do with a headlining, full length set. I don't think I could be more satisfied. As they began their first song the crowd went crazy! That energy didn't die for the entire hour and 15 minute set. Taylor knew how to work the crowd like she had played to these same people a thousand times. When "Going to Hell" started I was instantly struck by its new found live beauty and was covered with goosebumps for its entirety! I found that I had similar experiences throughout their show. The only time I felt disappoint during the show was when it was over.

This was an absolutely fabulous show and I could NOT have been happier with the experience! If you have the chance to see Them Evils, Holy White Hounds, or The Pretty Reckless then do not hesitate to buy those tickets! It was an experience that I would love to have again and again!

That's it for A Shot of Rock!
